Work Files vs. Personal Files: Should You Share Them the Same Way?

Sending a client contract and sending vacation photos to a cousin both involve uploading a file and sharing a link, but the two situations really call for different habits.

What Work Files Usually Need

Client contracts, invoices, anything with financial or legal weight benefits from a password on the link and, often, an expiration date once the recipient has had time to grab it. If it's meant for exactly one person, a one-time download link closes the loop cleanly.

What Personal Files Usually Don't

A batch of vacation photos for family doesn't carry the same stakes. A plain link that stays open for a while is usually perfectly fine, no need to lock it down the same way.

The Middle Ground

Some personal files are more sensitive than others, scanned documents, medical records, anything you wouldn't want a stranger stumbling into. Treat those more like work files: password, expiration, done.

A Quick Way to Decide

Ask whether it would actually matter if the wrong person opened the link. If yes, add the protections. If not, don't bother, simplicity wins there.
